Lawrence Jones Quartet – Review – December 2024
Written by Marci Mathura
Lawrence Jones Quartet delivered an energetic and moving two-hour set (in two halves) at the Camden Club. Superbly supported by his band, Jones bestowed an eclectic mix of standards and originals through saxophone, flute, and vocals in equally splendid measures. There was something for everyone.
Jones’ diverse and beautiful improvisations, including commanding circular breathing passages, locked the audience into uplifting musical excursions. There were many highlights, including Jones’ fabulous storytelling as he led us through a journey of thought-provoking, inspiring and joyous singing, saxophone and flute, which pulled deeper with each piece. This included a brilliant, original, funky jazz composition. By the end of the second half, the appreciation scale had peaked, the atmosphere was celebratory and united, and we were putty in his air!
Thank you also to Ossie and Kathy of Music Motivation Management for the great after-party. A wonderful night all around.
